Adjusting to New Things

A new year means lots of new things to adjust to, and this year, there's more than the usual "new year of uni".

Second year of Uni........ different units, different timetable, different ways of handling all the information from lectures, different groups for group projects, different tutors who will definitely mark differently than i'm used to.

Char's here..................... living with my sister instead of a friend (i mean Daniel NOT Shirley). In a way it's better cos we have the whole apartment to ourselves and we've lived together since birth. But this also means i am responsible for her and that is quite a big responsibility. But i guess my parents trust me enough since they let her stay here instead of going to Melbourne where Tai Yi can keep an eye on her and all. Basically i'm responsible for feeding her (most of the time unless i'm working or at uni or doing film work), making sure she does her work (but only she can really help herself), making sure she's well (health-wise), making sure she knows her way around (if she gets lost it's my fault), making sure.... i don't know what else... but you get the idea.

Shannon and our long distance thingy...... gotta juggle second year of uni, working at subway and the occasional film job, taking care of my sister and a long distance relationship too. I'm sooo not complaining, i'm just saying it's something different than what i'm used to. I'm 21, i guess it's time for a change. But how we got together was really all just a funny misunderstanding which turned out to be what we wanted anyway... so that's good. Not that our relationship is something we take for granted. He's flying over in June for the mid year hols and staying for a month so that's good for us. Finally get to see him then. Meanwhile, just gotta stay focused.

I've been catching up with uni work since my family left on Friday (21st March). It took a bit of getting used to with the apartment being all empty and quiet after they took a taxi to the airport, the same feeling shared by Shai when her family left. But i'll see them end of year when i go back anyway, and i'm pretty used to being alone in Bris (though i'm no longer "alone" cos Char's here).

Initially at the beginning of the year, i didn't plan on going back end of this year, cos i planned on working more at Subway and working more on film jobs since i missed 3 while i was gone last year end holiday. But my parents want me to (yes! i get to laze around some more) and i'm pretty sure Shannon feels the same, i wanna see him too. So my plans will have to change i guess. But how long i'll be back is another question altogether and will have to be considered closer to date or at least closer to second sem. Haha... I'm just planning WAY too far ahead right now.

Anyway, got to get back to readings for Australian Film. Just one thing i've noticed watching Aussie films... someone's always got to die:
-Little Fish
-Jindabyne
-Chopper
-Boytown
-Gallipoli
-Beneath Clouds
-Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger
-did anyone die in Priscilla Queen of the Desert? Can't remember...

But that's 7 out of 8 and there's more to come as the sem progresses. Will keep you updated on the body count. HAHA...

Films i've seen lately:
-Vantage Point: 7 out of 10 for structure, suspense and action. Enough said, just go watch it if you like multiple criss-cross storylines, cos i do!! I knew going in they'd cast Matthew Fox against type. But i was a bit bothered by the cheesy slash lame slash gay undertone lines shared between Dennis Quaid and William Hurt, go figure. That part was overly melodramatic and sorta ruined the movie. But the car crashes were awesome. HAHA...

-The Other Boleyn Girl: 9 out of 10 for the story and the bloody amazing acting by Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson and my boy Jim Sturgess!! This movie changed my opinion of Scarlett Johansson. She CAN act. HAHA... so i stand corrected. I was very very impressed by Natalie Portman's performance... she'd better get an Oscar for this cos she was SOOOOOO BLOOOODY GOOOOOD!!! But the story is what will keep this film in your head, it's riveting and shocking.

-Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger: 7 out of 10 for how it made me feel after watching it. It was very extreme in trying to put through its message, there were a few unexplained plot points and awkward funny moments but also sad and touching ones, your (a-)typical coming of age film. Was entertaining.

Yes, i've seen few, been busy on the phone with Shannon, catching up with uni work, working on Bryn's film The Private World of Bartholomew Blue over the 4 day Easter break and sorting out bloody IKEA furniture which has now been settled (was partly my ignorance anyways... sakai!!)

Neways... will update whenever i feel like i have stuff to say... you know... as usual.
