OMG! BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!
Anyway, there's loads to tell about the film shoot. Mainly that the director doesn't seem to know what the hell he's doing and he's feeding us curry for lunch and dinner everyday. And if it wasn't for our slight protest and help from the producer (my dear friend Lea), we would've had it for four days straight as opposed to 2 and a half days straight... You do the math. But this is not what this post is about.
MAINLY, it's about the film Across The Universe. If this is showing in theaters near you, you really must go see it... But again, this doesn't really apply to people that HATE or DO NOT LIKE musicals. But i was completely blown away... this is the best movie i've seen this year (it's no longer 28 weeks later), it's the best movie i've seen so far... ever... period. It has beat The Matrix and other films like Citizen Kane, Closer, Crash... on my personal best/fave movies list. What's even better is that the songs are The Beatles songs placed in the context of the film's narrative, matched with beautiful cinematography, great effects, well thought out choreography, awesomely intricate sets and great performances in both acting and vocals. This movie is a true gem. It's amazing!!!!!! Who would've known Evan Rachel Wood had such a great singing voice! This movie also gives me hope, it was directed by Julie Taymor, a woman! Yay for the girls!
Even rarer in musicals is that 90% of the songs in Across the Universe were recorded live on-set and were not dubbed with studio recordings in post-production (IMDb, 2007). That is hard work!!! Even the best of the best couldn't and didn't do that! It's like totally murder, suicide! (anyone can guess the line here? bet Stef and Char and even Dougie could). HAHA. Anyway, the one word to describe Across the Universe is ambitious. It's like a film slash music video.
I've recently also seen:
Waitress -- great story, great acting 8/10
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford -- terrific cinematography, great story, great acting, a slow-going film, but a great film 8/10
30 Days of Night -- good make-up, great gore, less cliched vampire movie, emphasis on "vampire movie" 7/10
I Think I Love My Wife -- directed and written by Chris Rock, enough said 5/10
Spaceballs -- Star Wars spoof by none other than the king of spoofs Mel Brooks 7/10
The Heartbreak Kid -- A good laugh, entertaining, nice twist. It's the Farelly brothers!! 7/10
Good Luck Chuck -- purest form of crap you'll ever see, almost unbearable cos of its cliches and dumb storyline 3/10.
I'll be back on the 10th of Dec as far as i know... Still waiting on MAS to tell me if i've secured a seat for the 14th of Dec... Trying to extend cos i got a call from the producer of the feature film The Dark Lurking (finally!!). He called the other day, and apparently i'll be doing wardrobe continuity. He's already emailed me the script and shooting schedule which i've yet had time to read cos of the short film shoot i'm doing back-up boom and sound assist on. The feature film will be shot at the Gold Coast so i'll have to car pool every morning. Anyway, they'll be shooting from Monday-Friday for 2 weeks (the 3rd-7th then 10th-14th)... So if i get the flight on 14th, I'll be able to work both weeks. But Stuart (Stu) the producer, said that even if i do leave on the 10th, he'll still give me the first week (3rd-7th), which is very cool of him... And i told him if i do leave on the 10th that i'd find a replacement for me. So hopefully all goes well and he doesn't change his mind.
That's all for now, listening to the Across the Universe soundtrack, gonna sleep now, major lack of sleep working on this stupid short film shoot (we're shooting again from 23rd-26th). I'm learning a lot, but.... argh... lazy to talk about it cos there's tooooooooo much, will try my best to elaborate next time. Thanks for reading and thanks for caring!
