FIRST (proper) Post in Months

Ello,

Sorry i haven't posted anything in months, just been caught up with stuff.

I'll try to tell you what i've done but i don't know if my memory is as accurate as i think. Also, i will attempt to make this a brief one, in dot points if possible.

-Char and i arrived in Brisbane on Valentine's Day morning, we actually spent the whole day (til 3am) cleaning the gross-arse apartment.

-I got a call from Killian (previously worked with him on the 48 hr film competition '07) to do sound on this thing we'd be shooting that would eventually be turned into a doco, an advertisement and a show reel. The "thing" we were to shoot was a modern day orchestra known as Deep Blue that mixes the classical and contemporary styles of music. We shot it at QPAC, the performing arts theatre where all the live theatre shows or plays like Phantom etc perform. I enjoyed it. By "it" i mean both the experience of shooting the behind-the-scenes footage as much as the music itself and the actual live performance on the night. This shoot lasted for 4 days, but i was only needed for 3. Anyhoo, it was kinda fun to be authorised personnel cos we were allowed backstage and all areas of the QPAC theatre. It was a small crew as we were running on a $3000 dollar budget for the entire production. In total there were only 5 of us, Killian-director, Facundo-D.o.P/Camera Operator, Bronwen-D.o.P/Camera Operator, Michael-Editor, Me-Sound, Grip, and in-charge of Live Feed on the night of the performance. Also, this is my first paid film job. Lots of fun... This was the Wednesday to Saturday of the week before uni re-opened, so i was glad to gain a little more experience and be back working on course related stuff.

-Uni's pretty much the same, as enjoyable, as challenging, as stressful (at times only), as interesting as always.

-Work is... less, i've only worked twice so far since i've been back. Mainly cos i've been sick, and also cos I'm more disorganised this time round with Char here living in my room (cos Daniel only just moved out today). Will get back on track asap with both work and uni stuff. I'm seriously seriously disorganised. But i have my reasons, which are actually excuses for why i'm so disorganised. Yeah, so i shouldnt' be complaining or giving excuses. No excuses from this point onwards. I have to learn to cope.

-At the moment, whole family is over here. Kiddies are here for a holiday whereas parents are here to settle Char into her new room but of course for a bit of a break too. Hallelujah!! I finally get my room back, get to sleep without someone snoring next to my ear or drooling on my pillow, my room will soon be back to its tidy state. Hahaha...

-Highlights...highlights... what else do i have to tell you? Oh, Tim (assistant director on Kavit Mody's film--the shoot from hell cos of Kavit himself and no one else) asked me to do sound on his friend Bryn's film over the Easter break from Friday (21st) til Monday(24th). This'll be great fun as i'll be working with a great crew.

-My cousin Kevin told us that he and Shinko are engaged and the wedding'll be early next year! Will be there Kev! Congratulations again! So happy for them :)

Okie dokes, i think that about sums it up... Oh, wait, films i've seen lately:

-The Invisible (7/10): enjoyable, entertaining, ok story, quite suspenseful.

-Crank (7/10): totally ridiculous, funny, flippant film.

-88Minutes (6/10): Al Pacino in such a movie?? What?? Waste of talent.

-27 Dresses (6/10): Not as funny as i expected but still if you're looking for something light, go for it.

-No Country for Old Men (8/10 stars): very cool, coen bros rock, go see for yourself, it is not a mainstream film though.

-Jumper (6/10): entertaining, that's about it, you're not watching for the story or the acting.

-Atonement (9/10): beautifully shot, great soundscape and soundtrack throughout, good enough story, well told, well paced, well acted.

-August Rush (7/10): good family film, bit surreal, but hey, it's a film about music and how it's all around us, "music is all around us, all you have to do.... is listen"; need i say more? you have to suspend belief to enjoy this; but for music lovers, you'll enjoy this.

-Martian Child (8/10): touching, unique, story is told interestingly enough.

-Sweeney Todd (7/10): not your typical musical, very dark, very unique (Tim Burton) visual style, cool "twist".

-We Own the Night (7/10): typical male melodrama, predictable, well acted, not entirely cliche, quite entertaining.

-10,000 b.c.(6/10): visually amazing (all the CGI), but story-wise, definitely inspired by Apocalypto.

-Run Fatboy Run (9/10): hilarious, entertaining, inspiring film, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

watched these two aussie films in class:
-Gallipoli (7/10): Not bad.

-Beneath Clouds (9/10): Very unique, very touching, very sad. Loved it.

I wanna watch Vantage Point, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Black Balloon, Death Defying Acts at the cinema asap.

That's all for now, thanks for reading and thanks for caring.
