Crap Week

After work on Tuesday, everything turned to shit.

I went to see a doctor, because i had yellow/greenish phlegm. Silly me, i told the doctor about everything--cough, soar throat, runny and sometimes blocked nose, headaches--she told me it was the "epidemic" at the time... the flu. She told me i should just let it pass, and it should go in about 5 days. Today (Sunday) is the 7th day, it has gotten anything but better (the occasional fever, slight soar throat, more coughing, more phlegm which is still green). I suppose it's partially my fault, i should've told her on the spot i had GREEN phlegm, maybe that would've alerted her warning bells. CRAP. Now i'm gonna have to see the doctor again on Monday, cos i know i'll need antibiotics this time. Bloody hell woman, no wonder you're a uni doctor.

Aside from the flu, my computer has been down for about 5 days now, Kannan's fault really. He was passing me programs (Kaspersky antivirus program, Nero Burner, bla bla bla), and cos Morg and aunty and uncle were waiting for me to have dinner, i left Kannan with my computer. He was trying to be nice, by deleting unnecessary stuff from the registry (i still don't know what this is), but anyway, he deleted something that he wasn't supposed to, and my computer slowed down so he restarted it. And when it was trying to load up again, it would get stuck at the blue window screen right before the "welcome" screen. Holy shit, i know.

Two days later, he comes over with these downloaded programs that are supposed to retrieve all lost data from your com, even the ones that have been deleted. "Last resort only," he says. He around with the and keys and changes things. Nothing really happens, it still gets stuck at the same blue screen. "Maybe we should reformat," he says. I tell him "WAIT! Let me call my cousin, he works for IBM (kev)". Kev couldn't recognise my voice cos it sounds coarse, my voice has been gone for 3-4 days, it comes and goes. Kev had to ask, "this is Jamie CHONG right? Jamie Chong?" I laugh and say "yes, sorry for calling you all of a sudden, i'm sick, so you can't recognise my voice. My computer wouldn't start..." He talks to me for awhile, then he speaks to Kannan about what to do. He puts in the formatting cd, ready to reformat my computer, but in the end, it asks if we want to restore or reformat, obviously, to save from losing all my pictures, music, movies, we picked restore. Hallelujah! My things were saved, but my programs weren't--microsoft word, gone; microsoft powerpoint; gone, iTunes, gone. The second Holy shit, but i knew it would happen. On the bright side, i didn't lose my valuable pics and music. Anyway, so i didn't lose my stuff, only lost my programs. Final thing to settle was the internet, we tried connecting. It wouldn't connect... Ahh, great... Kannan says "at least it's working now, you don't need the internet straight away right?" "Nah," i tell him. "Ok, so sorry Jamie, I'll come back tomorrow and we'll get this internet thing working."

Yesterday, he came, this time without Jay (Kannan, Jay and Chung Kiat live together now). He started by trying the internet again. It didn't work, he fiddled with the kaspersky antivirus program, thinking that was the problem, but it didn't help. "Kannan, just reformat the damn thing," i told him. Morg packed up and left the night before, went to stay with his parents (Friday night) cos he had no more orientation the next day. He left his 300GB hard disk here, so i asked him if i could use it to store my shit. He of course said ok. So that's what we did. It took close to two hours to copy everything from my computer to morg's hard disk, so Kannan and i went out for dinner then came back. It was still copying... gosh, but it was almost done. Then i braced myself for the reformat. Deep breath... i would have to start over once it was done. I would lose my Bookmarks, my Skype, my Messenger... EVERYTHING!! Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!

And so i did. The internet was still a problem after reformatting though, something we hoped reformatting would fix, but it didn't. It would connect, then disconnect after we surfed a few web pages. Very annoying. Kannan left around 12am... Poor guy. "At least i can sleep better now," he said. Still feeling guilty about messing things up in the first place. But i guess it was time to reformat my computer anyway... Apparently it's "healthier" this way. I get internet on and off... It's been lasting longer today. Last night was just useless, it would disconnect every minute. See how it goes. Kannan says he'll look it up on the internet... this weird problem, he's never encountered before. His internet connection at home recently has been disconnected, some problem with Telstra's service. So he hasn't had internet for a few days now, he had to go to school to research and download programs, then come here to fix my computer. Appreciate his efforts, at least now all i have to do is download iTunes, Mozilla Firefox, Windows Live Messenger, Skype, find my Bookmarks again... etc... lots to do... but how to do it when the internet is trying to be funny? hmm... patience... breathe in breathe out. Haha... Hopefully all will be back to normal asap.

I'm definitely seeing a doctor tomorrow. Sadly i won't be able to go to the Tie Party with the gang, it's at Klub Kandy. Daniel couldn't get a ticket to go home earlier as planned, so he's leaving on the 2nd of July. He was supposed to leave before his birthday--28th June. Gonna have to get him a present... Morg's birthday's coming up soon too... 30th June. We'll be in GC then! Hopefully.... i don't really know... It depends on if i'm still sick or not. Rubbish, mediocre doctor and her lousy, inaccurate diagnosis.

Still have to work this coming roster week, plus the trip to GC is sorta in the middle of the week... so... hmm... i have to give Navroz my availibility today (Sunday). I'm gonna have to plan ahead which days to join Shai and the gang at GC and which days to work...

That's all for now. Thanks for reading and thanks for caring!

working for an IT company doesnt automatically mean i can fix everyone's IT problems with computers, and Y2k bugs and who knows what else... cure cancer.
Anyways, good to hear that your life has not ended and you have internet and a PC again.
