AUSTRALIA

During my short time here of a month, I've noticed a few things about Australians.

What they love to say after you thank them is, "No worries, mate." or "You're okay."
That's what they'll normally say, weird thing is i've never heard them say, "you're welcome."
I'm not saying that's rude, that's just the way they speak.

I've said this before and i'll say it again, Australians are very friendly people, or at least most of them are. As long as you're willing to ask, they're willing to help. It's great. I'm starting to like it here too. Slowly getting used to my routine life style. I'll elaborate more later.

I've been watching the Commonwealth games on Channel 9 every day after school, i do my homework while the games are on. And i've noticed that they only broadcast the sports their Aussies are in. It's always Australia vs New Zealand or Australia vs Canada or Australia vs Brazil, it's never vs . It's always Australia this and Australia that. They're sooooooooooo proud of their athletes. Which is a good thing i guess. I've noticed that they really support their athletes and are really really proud of them. And the athletes are really proud of their country. So basically what i'm trying to say is that Aussies love Australia.

Another thing is that everywhere i go, i can see people with cigarettes in their hands. It's terrible!!! I dare say that 80% of the population in Australia smoke. Which is Dang GROSS!!! I for one can't stand it. And i've recently found out that Ali, the 50+ Indonesian that stays with me in the same lousy apartment smokes as well. He hides it well, but i can smell it. Every step i take, every corner i see, every open-aired place, everywhere... there'd be at least 3 people smoking. It's disgusting!!! I seriously wonder why cigarettes are not illegal. It has all the characteristics of a drug, first of all, people who smoke are addicted to cigarettes. Second of all, smoking is bad for health, just like drugs are. Third of all, smoking is bad for even the people who don't smoke, 2nd hand smoke is the worst, this is similar to drug dealers trying to get more druggies by introducing drugs to youngsters. I don't have a point here, i'm just complaining like i always do.

The weather here in Brisbane is unpredictable, one second it could be so sunny you wouldn't want to go out, but the next second it could be drizzling or pouring. It's because of Cyclone Larry, it's bringing showers to Queensland. But i seriously don't mind the rain, it's been so hot and dry here. It's nice to have a little rain.

That's about all i've noticed about Australia and the people that live in it. You must be thinking that that was a load of crap... I suppose it was. This is my blog and i can do anything i want with it. Haha...

yay! freedom of speech in somewhere nobody can prosecute you. First of all, the government impose high taxes on cigarettes here, they cost 10 dollars for a packet btw, where else in Asia, well you know. And thats how the gov't gets the $$ to pay for free health for the australians, its a cycle. Or else the gov't wouldn't provide such a service. So as other taxes, to pay for other compensations and subsides for their ppl.
