2nd Day Without My Parents and I've already......

.....gotten lost. Considering my dad drove us around a lot when he was here, i seem to be really bad in sense of direction and trying to remember which roads are where, especially the roads that lead back to my place. That's why today(6th March 2006), i got lost. Here's what happened...

We(when i say we i mean Alex & Shairah) finished class early today, 1pm. So we decided to go to the city to get Martha(still had class at the time) a birthday card and present(if possible). So this was my first experience taking a bus to the city without my parents. To cut a long story short, Shairah left half way but Azlan met up with us(Alex and I), 3 of us bought a cute card(a fat guy with his pants down when you open the card) then had coffee at starbucks(not my idea, i like coffee bean. And can you believe the people here have never heard of CB??Hmmm. My dad asked once, and the lady thought he wanted coffee beans, so she said, "yeah, we sell coffee beans." It took my dad so long to explain. It was funny.) After that, it was 4.05pm, we parted ways, Alex walked with me to the bus station which is UNDERGROUND!!! Sorry, but i'm like a farm girl coming to the city for the first time, i've never seen an underground bus station before!!!!! Anyways, Alex stays somewhere else in the city and has to take a diff bus, his bus came first at a different gate, i was told the gate i was supposed to wait at was gate A10 for bus 333. So i did, i was very anxious as i was waiting for the bus because 1. I needed to get to the bike shop before it was 5pm(the time all shops close here) to get a rack put on the back and get flicker lights in case i wanted to ride at night. 2. I was afraid i'd get off at the wrong stop (eventhough i was told to get off at Kelvin Grove) 3. I sorta needed to go... So anyways, it was about 4.15pm when the 333 bus arrived at the station, a sense of relief, but i still had to cycle to the bike shop before it closed and i wasn't entirely sure i knew the way.

I got off at KG bus station, which has 2 long long flight of stairs, believe me, i was huffing and puffing when i got to the top(flat ground, thank GOD!) But tell you something, there was an elevator. But i thought it'd be slower. So i ran up... running late!!! I walked home a.q.a.p, as quick as possible, got home at 4.22pm, argh!!! I grabbed my bike, money, house keys, note that i did not take my phone and i didn't have time to pee and wee(sorry if i'm too gross, crucial information for you to understand my state at the time). By the time i got to the bike shop, it was about 4.45pm. Phew... close. After i told them what i wanted, i went to the toilet and shat(i know that's not a word, but you know what i mean) and peeed(is that how you spell it?hmm, what's the past tense of pee??Irz, help me out here). Anyways, when i went back downstairs(the toilet is upstairs), i was told that the workshop closed at 5pm, i looked at my watch, it was 5pm. So they asked me if i could collect it the next day. So i paid the guy and started to walk home. Hmm... who woulda known, i forgot to cross the traffic lights and instead i walked on the path the bike shop was at which is why i got lost(i figured out where i went wrong the next day when i payed more attention, than the day before, on my way to the bike shop to pick up my bike).

Halfway through, i felt something was wrong cos i'd been walking a long time, so asked this lady, she looked Indian, she was taking pictures, she told me i'd overshot. Dang, so i started walking back the way i came. Halfway back, i couldn't see any familiar road signs where i should turn, so i asked another lady, she was wearing those gypsy-like skirts that flowed all the way down to her ankles so i could only see her shoes, she wore glasses and had curly brownish-gold hair(could tell it was natural), tall and lanky, about 26 years of age. She told me i had to go back the way i came!!! And i thought UNBELIEVABLE!!! But i was thankful, she was going in my direction, so we walked together and talked. Her name's Aileen, works in the city, owns a car but walks back and forth everyday to avoid the congestion. She studied journalism at UQ and now writes for a newspaper and for the firm she is working with, an interesting fact is that she wrote for Rolling Stones once, and i thought that was pretty cool. We reached her junction and she gave me directions as to where i should go, then we said goodbye and she wished me good luck. Australians are so nice(so far, the ones i've met are). She told me all i had to do was follow the road, no turns. So i bought fish and chips at a shop at the junction and continued on my way, but soon i felt i was going the wrong way AGAIN!!! So i asked an old lady, she finally pointed me in the right direction. Bless you lady! I later realized that if i'd followed my intuition, i would've gotten home with no trouble, even though i found out the next day that i actually took the long way home because i didn't cross at the traffic lights.

Oh well, good experience, kind of fun even. Good exercise too, i had been walking from 5.07pm to 6.10pm, 1 hour!!! I was tired but happy that i got home safely. It was early so i put the fish and chips into the fridge and decided to pack my laptop and homework and go to the 24 hr com labs at my school. I was afraid of nothing now, haha... sorta. So i dared to walk to school at 6.30pm. The main reason i brought my own laptop was cos i wanted to upload pics here(this blog) and it had all my favourite links, more convenient. I left the lab at 9.40pm to catch the night bus service available only up till 10pm. The old bus driver sent me home and i was beat. I showered then heated up my fish n chips and ate while watching local tv. I did the remaining homework then went to bed.

Thats how inconvenient it is without a car, thank god there is still the bus. If you were living in napier(NZ), hallelujah, u gotta cycle and walk where ever u wanna go. Or wait till u rot to death before the bus arrives. And bless the kangaroos and not the kiwis.
