The Last One
Back to sports day, every yr there'll be a bazaar on the first day. I had planned to wake up early at 9am to go have a look but instead i woke up at 12pm and had a very slow paced lunch with my mom and ended up reaching school at 2pm. Before, i had called my friend, Kak, and asked her if she wanted to go too. We agreed to meet at school. I had an ice cream and bought a Mr. Bean cup=rm3 for Dougie because the day before, Char gave me one book of coupons=rm5. I was there for the events more than the food, so Kak and i sat at the usual VIP balcony of the stands(which wasn't occupied that day cos the VIPs only come on the 3rd and last day to give long, boring and meaningless speeches and to officiate the event, yadayadayada) soon to be joined by Nicholas Lee(used to be in the same class as Kak, graduated 2 yrs ago and in the present is form teacher of a senior 2 class and teaches Chem) who was also an athlete in his days. And this was when we(or more like Kak) realized that every athlete had a back story to their "career". For instance, 2 yrs ago the 400m event was won by Chu Wen Jie, and the following year by Kevin Ng and this yr(as we were watchin) by Ronald Siaw who had lost to Kevin the year before. It goes to show that if your heart's not in it and you lose focus and concentration for just a second, all your hard work and dedication to training could be for nothing. It was devastating for Kevin as he was hoping to be the best male athlete this yr cos it is his final yr. Then on the 2nd day he got gold in 1500m but failed to break the record which was the determining factor as to whether he would be the best male athlete. So in the end he got gold for 1500m, silver for 400m and gold for 800m where he managed to break the record. But it still wasn't good enough. Disappointing for him.
Well, i'll stop here, got some shopping to do with my mom before i leave. Will be back with more stories.
