Feels like Nothing
Reasons for this are:
1 I had to work.
2 I was trying to recover from my originally bacterial, then viral infection of some sort, not infection, just viral illness. It's so annoying, antibiotics wouldn't cure it. But rest will, and that's the one thing that i haven't had.
3 I had to prepare for my shoot on Thursday (Good Samaritan).
4 I had to help out with Nad's shoot after my shoot (which was lastnight when we painted the set walls and today when we started shooting).
My shoot for Good Samaritan was okay. I'm still not fully satisfied because i didn't get the shots i wanted due to poor lighting and we ended up going with a completely different storyline. I'll post the video on youtube or metacafe when i'm done editing it and handing it in. So you'll see the finished product as soon as the week after next.
What can i say about my shoot?
Being the director and camera operator for the first time in my life on my first ever shoot for my first ever individual film was a bit intimidating, Nadira was there to help and because she was there and has great vision at times, she helped me a lot with lighting and angles that night.
It was particularly hard to get the shots i had storyboarded and envisioned because the light was so low, all we had were torchlights that i'd bought and streetlamps and the surrounding light. But Nadira said that it was a valiant effort for my first ever shoot, which is a really encouraging comment, but i wonder if she said that because she was trying to cheer me up and comfort me cos i didn't exactly get what i wanted or if it was true. But all the same, at least i have enough shots and choices to pick and choose from to cut together to mean SOMETHING!!! Even though it's a different something than the something i had imagined.
Anyhow, on the bright side, i could always come back to my original plot in a longer project so i can express it better, i think 30 secs is just too short to try and tell a complicated story. Plus i gave it my all, and so did Nad, Jay and Chewan. Not like we did a half-arsed job. I really tried my best. Although i got a bit short tempered at Jay because she can't take directions well. At times she would start doing her action even when the camera wasn't rolling or she'd forget to do something when i was rolling and it'd really piss me off. But i would just try to keep cool, "i'm not working with professional actors here," i'd tell myself. Chewan took directions really well, it was just Jay that just couldn't adapt to the whole, "roll tape, ready, lights, action,......, cut". I never scolded her or anything but you could hear it in my jumpy voice and impatient tone sometimes. I couldn't help it. We were behind schedule and she just couldn't do what she had to sometimes. But in the end, i got all the shots needed to make my 30 second clip as coherent and understandable as possible.... hopefully.
Will see when i have time to capture the rushes (raw footage). I have to do that soon too, but tomorrow school starts, i work in the morning, go to class, then Kannan's coming to get me to help him with his project (some video where he has to show his listening skills as a psychology student when he's talking to Yuka) then come home. Then the next day, work, class, night... I'd rather do it during the day, and be fresh and alert in the morning, cos this would be my first time alone in an editing suite and i need to figure out how to do it on my own... Can't rely on anybody in this business, SOMETIMES not even your crew. Not always, but sometimes.
Oh, before i forget to mention. A special thanks goes out to Nad cos she drove me to get equipment at Roma Train Station from Reina, one of my groupmates. She had a car that day cos her parents are here on holiday and rented one out. Also, thanks to Daniel for helping me carry shit. Oh, and Chewan for jumping into the ice cold pool at 2 am for our final shot. Thanks to Jay for trying to act as well.
In case you're wondering, I'm just saying thanks for the sake of it.
Nad's shoot today was good. She had more crew members, so i didn't really do all to much, but enough and mostly i was just there to repay the favour anyway. And i find that i learn better and learn more hands-on than through textbook. But textbook is still needed for a strong foundation. So i need to find time to do both. Plus assignments and work. My schedule is always pretty full and i really have to manage my time well, which hopefully, is something i can keep up with.
Oh, and we find out if Departure wins amongst other Boston schools in the next level of screenings this coming Wednesday. Will keep you guys posted. Real excited about that!
That's all for now. Thanks for reading and thanks for caring!
