Exams are over. Last subject was Econs1. All results out next Tuesday.
I guess now is the time to talk about all my subjects and the teachers like i promised.
To recap, this semester I've had to take 5 subjects, 2 compulsory ones and 3 choices on the others. The compulsory subjects were TPS1 (Tertiary Preparation Studies 1) and Communication 1. These two subjects will also be compulsory in the second semester, but they'd be called TPS2 and Comm2.
TPS1 was a crappy subject if you ask me. It's divided into 2 parts, Australian Studies and Computing Studies. The Australian Studies part was about Australia's history like the White Settlement and stuff... BORING...ZZZZZZZ. But i felt the Computer part really helped with my skills on the computer. It taught really basic stuff but it was a good memory refresher. Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, bit of Excel and so on... Definitely helped. We've had two teachers teaching us Aus studies, mainly cos the first one, can't remember what her name was now... She broke her leg when she fell over while hosing her flowers. I think i mentioned this last time. Yeah, so we got a replacement teacher, Maralyn MacDowell... As boring as the previous one. So it made no difference. Fiona Cleary is the one teaching us computer stuff. She's weird but nice. When i say weird i mean the way she dresses. The guys always make fun of how she's old but still dresses like she's nineteen or something. Another weird thing of which i enjoy is that she speaks so softly you have to strain your ears just to pick up stuff but when she laughs, she bursts out so loud, the first time it happened (in our first class), we all jumped and then exchanged puzzled glances with one another, then laughed about it. But of course she didn't know that we were laughing at her and instead thought we were laughing with her... There's a difference of course, but the ones we laugh at often think we're laughing with. Funny world. But she's nice and i learned a lot, so it's all good.
Communication 1 was great fun because of the teacher we got-- Helen Manchon, i think she's a bit french... From what i recall her saying when introducing herself. She's cool, she's old, doesn't look too old, but she's got short red hair and a deep, loud, huge voice which makes you listen. It's really fun having her teach us cos she really helped a lot with improving my English. Her BOOMING voice was a little intimidating at first but she's very nice and encouraging to all students. The other class was taught by Marlyn, she teaches Shairah, Martha, Sonia and Sue. We were split to different classes because there are too many of us, the separation is based on what Math subject you take. Kannan, Yuka and I took Math A1 so we got Helen and the rest took Math B1 so they got Marlyn. That's just how it works.
Math A1 is really fun too, Scott is by far the best Maths teacher I've ever had, ever!!! He actually rekindled my love for math... the easier kind... Hehe... Plus he's really funny and always cracks all these jokes in class. Just last week, at the 2nd LAST math class, he announced that he would be teaching Math A2 just cos he liked our class, and to be honest, he really liked Kannan and I, basically we were the only ones who always answered him in class and laughed at his jokes. Maybe the others had trouble answering questions and understanding jokes cos of the language barrier, most of them are from China you see... Or Arab. Anyways, when he was mocking Professional Studies (my substitute for Math next sem cos i don't need math for Creative Industries), he said Professional Studies was for chickens and at the same time he did a chicken dance... a seriously hilarious and long chicken dance with the actions and the clucking... It was soooooooooo funny!!! But he was just teasing. He really just decided to teach next sem's Math A2 for us. And when he found out i wasn't gonna do that next sem he decided to tease me. Haha... I didn't mind. I was laughing my head off when he did the chicken dance. So was the whole class... I'm gonna miss him and Helen and Lesley. Scott's the Director of Studies for QUT international college and his assistant is Lesley Chiu.
Lesley teaches Economics 1 and sadly i won't be taking Econs next sem and she won't be teaching it anyways. I really enjoyed econs, it's new to me and is surprisingly interesting. It's more applicable to real life situations than science for some reason. I'm not saying science sucks and commerce rocks... I'm just saying that it's great to know both sides of things now. And hopefully next sem it'll be less stressful and more interesting cos i'll be doing Creative Industry subjects. Anyways, back to Lesley, she's chinese, she's married to a Malaysian dude and has 3 kids, 2 sons and a daughter. Her 2 sons have actually started a fashion business and are selling clothes that are branded by their names Benjamin Nicholas. That's what they call their clothes. And like i think i said in one of my previous posts, Andrea, whom i met at Shannon's farewell bbq is actually her niece and she used to stay with Lesley when she was studying in Foundation at QUT. Now she's lives at her own apartment near the train station. It's funny because she could literally open her window and jump onto the train station platform if she wanted to... That's how close she stays to the station. Yeah, so Lesley, nice teacher. Gonna miss her too.
The worst for last, Mr Tony Carr.... Booooooo... He teaches me OM (Organisation and Management), yes another business subject. I'm not going into commerce or anything but i thought it might help with my future in Creative Industries. Plus since i did science in high school i figured doing commerce now would be cool, cos then i get the best of both worlds. Back to Tony, he's from Britain, mom's real sick, there was a period of time when he couldn't teach us and Scott took over for 2 lessons, (yay scott!!). And lessons were much more interesting when Scott taught us. Anyways, yeah, Tony. He's the kind of teacher that talks about a lot of his own episodes and stuff together with what he's trying to teach. So it's really hard to filter and omit stuff from what he's saying ALL THE TIME. I never enjoyed his classes, jokes were lame and i don't think he taught very well either. So... this and TPS Aus studies were my least favourite subjects when it came to classes. But nevertheless, my attendance is a 100% and i've never missed a class. A lot of people play truant here, and to be honest, in our group of friends, i think i can say with full confidence that Kannan and I are the only ones who attend every classes punctually. No, actually there was this one day when Kannan was an hour late... Long story. Lazy to tell.
So basically, 3 subjects i've really enjoyed this semester, in no specific order, are Math, Communication 1 and Economics 1. The three teachers I'll miss most are of course the ones that taught me those subjects. And if you ask me what i think of Foundation at QUT, I'll tell you i think it's great. Which would have been better? Did i make the wrong choice coming to Brisbane? What if i studied in Institute Sinaran for A-levels or in Melbourne's RMIT? Ahh.... I really can't say can i? since i didn't really try the other two, I will never know. Nah... Who am i kidding? Melbourne? In the old RMIT building?? No thanks, might not have been as fun and i wouldn't have met all these wonderful new friends or these cool teachers or lived on my own. Institute Sinaran!!! No way!!! Boring same old school and same old atmosphere, I was well ready to get out of there last year after sports day anyways. I think i made the right choice, and so did my parents sending me here. Thanks guys!!! Wouldn't let you down. Hehe... Exam results come out tomorrow. Haha... Hope i did well. Will keep you posted.
